Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions.

The most common questions about GoDrive CarBox. If you don’t find your answer, write to office@godrivecarbox.com or call 0371 395 028.

What does GoDrive CarBox do?
It reads the car’s operating parameters through the OBD-II port, compares them in the cloud with cars of the same make and model and tells you when something drifts out of the normal pattern, before it becomes a breakdown. It also has built-in GPS for location, routes and mileage.
How is it different from a GPS tracking system?
GoDrive does everything a GPS tracker does (location, routes, mileage) and also follows the car’s condition: engine parameters, fault codes and their trends, compared with cars of the same model. See the comparison.
Can it replace the GPS system I have?
Yes, because it has built-in GPS. If you prefer to keep your existing system, GoDrive can also work alongside it.
What data does it read?
Parameters such as engine speed, coolant temperature, battery voltage and speed, the car’s fault codes, plus GPS position and mileage. The exact engine data depends on what each model makes available through the OBD-II port.
Which cars are compatible?
Most cars with an OBD-II port: in the EU, petrol cars from 2001 and diesel cars from 2004 onwards. Electric cars and trucks are not compatible. Compatibility details.
Does the car’s wiring need to be modified?
No. The black box is plug and play: it goes into the OBD-II port, no wires cut. How installation works.
Does it drain the car’s battery?
No. With the engine off, the black box draws almost no power.
How do I receive alerts?
In the GoDrive CarBox app, on phone, tablet or laptop, and by email.
What plans are there?
Basic (reporting, diagnostics, history), Premium (plus automatic alerts on problems) and Business, for fleets (plus access to specialised garages). The price depends on the number of cars; get a quote.
Where is the data stored and for how long?
In the GoDrive CarBox app, for the duration of the contract. After it ends, data is kept for at most 3 years, unless the contract says otherwise. See the privacy policy.
Are drivers tracked?
GoDrive follows the car’s condition and its location. The black box has no private mode, so when the data can be linked to a driver, the company that owns the fleet must inform its drivers before the box is fitted. What this means for drivers.
Do you work with insurance companies?
GoDrive CarBox can be the basis of an insurance package in which customers who use the device pay less. For insurers.
